Around the Community – October 15-22

Small look at the events I was able to take part in around the community for the week of October 15-22

Farewell to a Community Friend

14671365_1079642102152626_2680076189836329787_nThis past week we said goodbye to a valued friend. Howard Baugh, a graduate of McGill University, a decorated World War II Veteran, and a recipient of the Governor General’s Caring Canadian Award, passed away just short of his 97th birthday. Howard was a great friend of the community and I will miss our visits at the Legion. I extend my condolences to his family and friends.

Kanata North BIA International Tour

14714925_1089201127863390_3818212805425089828_oI was thrilled to join business leaders of the Kanata North business association as we welcomed members of the diplomatic community and foreign representatives as they toured Kanata.  I am always so proud to show those who live outside of the Riding the diversity of our business community. Special thanks are extended to the Kanata North BIA for putting on such a wonderful event.

In my role as Parliamentary Secretary, I was honoured to accept an invitation to visit 17 Wing Winnipeg, tour the base and headquarters, and speak at their annual military dinner. I was so impressed with the energy and dedication of our women and men in uniform.

West Ottawa Board of Trade – BDC Small Business Week

Many thanks to personal from Export Development Canada for delivering an excellent briefing on small business productivity. I want to thank the West Ottawa Board of Trade and Lockheed Martin in Kanata for hosting such a fabulous event. I am always delighted to attend events in our riding that demonstrate our business excellence and expertise.

Punjabi Community Celebration

I was happy to participate in a senior’s event held by the Punjabi Community this past week at the Mlacak Community Centre. It was great to chat with such friendly people and to share ideas on our community.
