I hope everyone had a wonderful Family Day with their friends and loved ones! We had a successful Skate Day with Councillor Marianne Wilkinson at the Mlacak Centre as did Councillor Eli El-Chantiry over at Cavanagh Sensplex. A huge thank you to all of the volunteers who helped out and to everyone who came out to enjoy some winter fun with their families!
The Kanata-Stittsville Community Voice
I am thrilled to say that a new local paper has come out in our neighbourhood: the Kanata-Stittsville Community Voice published its first edition! After the closing of both the Kanata Kourier and the West Carleton Review, many worked tirelessly to keep local journalism alive.
I am so happy to see this commitment to our community and community journalism! Well done to Michael Wollock and Patrick Uguccioni for pulling this together. I can’t wait to see what you have in store for us!
The 2018 Budget was announced this week, with some great news for Canadians! Our government has invested $1.3 billion toward nature conservation to protect our air, water, and land as well as reaffirming our gender equality goals by continuing to fight for equal pay for equal work of equal value and shared parental leave. I believe that equality and growth is the way forward for us as a nation!
Coldest Night of the Year
Thank you to everyone who walked and donated to support the Chrysalis House at the Coldest Night of the Year. I was proud to walk with my team and raise awareness for all of the great work the shelter does for women and children in our communities. I was inspired by the number of young people who participated in the event, showing me that everyone can give back, however they can. Thank you to the organizers and to everyone in our community who gives selflessly to others, be is as individuals or through charitable organizations. Our community is stronger when we help one another out!
What an incredible turnout at TEDxKanata! Minister Scott Brison had some motivating words on digital technology and I learnt so much, from the working of bee colonies to how we can be more compassionate to those around us. Thank you to the organizers for bringing such inspirational speakers out to Kanata! I can’t wait until next year!
