Around the Community: January 3- 9

Small look at the events I was able to take part in around the community for the week of January 3- 9

Visiting the Carillon

I had the pleasure of joining fellow West Carleton resident, Dr. Andrea McCrady, in the Peace Tower for some Holiday songs! What a pleasure it was to be able to sit in and watch the Dominion Carillonneur in action. The talent and skill that goes into playing some of our favourite songs on such an old instrument is unparalleled. Thank you so very much for the opportunity to listen to Canada’s talented treasure!

Canada150 Comes to a Close

As we leave 2017 behind us, I want to thank all of the local orga

nizations who chose to celebrate and raise awareness about Canada’s sesquicentennial anniversary. From local public skates to the Red Bus Tour, to the Kanata-Carleton Cultural festival, our communities came out in full force to celebrate Canada150, and for that I thank you! I was happy to participate in the launch of Christmas Lights Across Canada on Parliament Hill and the opening of the Canada150 skating rink, that will remain open until February 28th. I was thrilled by the amount of neighbours and community members who came out to celebrate Canada Day this year, be it on Parliament Hill or in Kanata. Our love for our country unites us all and, though 2017 has ended, I hope we can keep up the high spirits into 2018!

Launching Canada Summer Jobs – employers apply now!

Starting now, the employer application period for Canada Summer Jobs 2018 is now open. The Canada Summer Jobs program provides funding for not-for-profit organizations, public-sector employers, and small businesses with 50 or fewer employees to create summer job opportunities for students aged 15 to 30. The CSJ employer application period will run from December 19, 2017 to February 2, 2018, so that students may be hired beginning in April 2018.
