Around the Community: May 21 – 28

A small look at the events I was able to take part in around the community from May 21-28!

Ramadan Mubarak!

Last week marked the beginning of the month of Ramadan – a sacred time of the year for the Muslim community. This month, the Muslim community will fast during daylight hours and gather with friends and family in the evening to pray and share Iftar. I wish those observing this month a happy and blessed Ramadan!

Flood Protection Infrastructure

I was pleased to visit the Bridlewood Neighborhood Localised Flood Protection Improvement Project with Councillor Allan Hubley. This infrastructure project is one of many here in Ottawa that have received federal funding as part of our government’s long-term plan to invest in Canadian communities.
It is very exciting to see the progress on this important project! By making smart, targeted investments in the infrastructure, our government is helping to make sure that Kanata-Carleton remains one of the best places in the world to live, work, and raise a family.

Speaking with Students

It is always a pleasure to speak with students about the issues that matter most to them! Last week, I had the pleasure of speaking with students in grades 5-8 at W. O Mitchell Elementary School in Kanata to answer any and all of their questions, which led to very interesting and insightful conversations! Thank you for having me and I hope to see you again soon!

Hike for Hospice

I was so happy to join Hospice Care Ottawa for their 2018 Hike for Hospice event! The Hike has raised an impressive $118,380, with money continuing to come in. The funds raised will go directly to people and families living with a life-limiting illness. The hospice has wonderful  palliative and end-of-life programs and services. Congratulations and well done!

New Horizons for Seniors

Seniors make significant and valuable contributions to their families, communities, and society. This is why our government has launched the “New Horizons for Seniors” program.  We are now calling for proposals for community-based projects. Not-for-profit organizations and community-based coalitions can apply now… until June 15th!
