Bill Teron Celebration of Life
We recently honoured the life of a personal hero of mine, Bill Teron, at his Celebration of Life. An officer of the Order of Canada and a man lovingly known as the “Father of Kanata,” Bill Teron was quite simply a visionary, someone who led the development of the Kanata community and the high tech centre of excellence that it is today. Bill was more than a developer; he was committed to creating communities. As part of the purchase agreement of homes that he built, homeowners were required to join the community association, thus creating the sense of belonging that still thrives today. As president of CMHC, Bill was especially proud of creating the Assisted Home Ownership Program, which gave the opportunity for those on a limited income to buy a home. Kanata has lost a legend, but his vision and spirit will live on in the heart of Kanata forever.
Speaking with Students
I am always happy to visit schools in the Riding and speak with students about the issues that matter most to them. Last week, I had the pleasure of speaking with grade 5 students at Katimavik School in Kanata to answer any and all of their questions about civics and government. We had some great discussions! Thank you for having me!
Welcoming Exchange Students from Nunavut
I was thrilled to welcome students from Inuksuk High School and A. Y. Jackson Secondary School to Parliament last week. Students from Inuksuk in Nunavut were staying with A.Y. Jackson students in Kanata as part of an exchange program with Experiences Canada. I am so happy they got a chance to visit Parliament and explore the National Capital Region. Safe travels and come back soon!
The Inside Ride
I had the pleasure of joining riders at the Nokia Campus in Kanata for the Inside Ride in support of Candlelighters Childhood Cancer Support Programs. I was happy to see so many teams dressed up in themed costumes to support such a wonderful cause! It was great to hear from childhood cancer survivors themselves and learn about the awesome work being done by Candlelighters. Great job everyone! Thank you for having me!
I want to thank all of the amazing volunteers and everyone who came out to our Tax Clinics that were held throughout March and April. I am thrilled so many people were able to get the help they needed on their tax returns this year. Thank you to everyone who participated in the clinics and to all the volunteers who selflessly helped our neighbours in Kanata!
